About the event
You and the children in your village are invited to a special story time based on the five practices of early literature. This story time will include singing, playing, reading, talking, and writing. It is geared toward kids 10 years old and younger. However, all ages and stages are welcome.
Join us at 10:00 am. Enjoy the alumni meeting while the children play in the community center park with volunteers. After, everyone will transition inside for refreshments, story time, crafts, and more. The featured story is Homecoming in Tigerland by Kimberly Monroe and illustrated by Christian Ryan West. Both are graduates of Grambling.
About the Author:
Kimberly Ferren Monroe is a two-time graduate of Grambling State University. Having received her B.A. in History and M.A. in Mass Communication and History in 2014, she is a proud alumna who wrote this book as a way of giving back to Grambling State University. A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Kimberly grew up using writing as a way to express herself. At Grambling, she was a part of various organizations, including Sigma Alpha Iota and Lyrical Quest, and served as an editor for The Gramblinite, the school newspaper. In addition, in 2011 she founded Natural Sistahs, an organization promoting self-confidence for natural haired women at GSU. At an HBCU full of rich traditions, there was a lot of history to include, but she chose what would stand out to fans and potential students. Kimberly received her Ph.D. in History from Howard University.
About the book:
Follow Charlie P. and his family as they make their way to Robinson Stadium for the big football game. With fun facts about GSU and eye-catching illustrations, this book is perfect for fans of all ages who love dear old Grambling.
